Before paying for a website redesign, check these seven things

A redesign is sometimes the right answer. Sometimes the expensive problem is somewhere else.

1. Is the offer clear?

A beautiful homepage cannot compensate for a proposition visitors do not understand. Write down who the site is for, what it helps them do and why they should choose you.

2. Is the traffic problem actually a design problem?

If almost nobody relevant reaches the site, the first priority may be Google Business Profile, search content, local pages or another acquisition channel rather than visual redesign.

3. Can mobile visitors complete the important task?

Test the real journey on a phone: find a service, understand price or next steps, call, message, book or buy. Small friction becomes expensive when most traffic is mobile.

4. Do you know what visitors are doing?

Without useful analytics, Search Console and conversion tracking, it is easy to redesign the wrong part of the journey.

5. Is the platform genuinely blocking you?

Replatforming can be necessary, but it adds migration, SEO, data and operational risk. Ask whether focused fixes can solve the immediate problem first.

6. Is the content architecture strong enough?

If every service is squeezed onto the homepage, search engines and users have little depth to work with. Sometimes the “redesign” is really an information-architecture project.

7. What happens after launch?

A website should have a plan for content, maintenance, measurement and improvement. If the proposal ends at launch day, ask who owns the next stage.
